Lauren Moore, 22, and Abbie Munt, 20, who work together at Specsavers Honiton, completed the 5k Pretty Muddy challenge at Exeter’s Westpoint Showground on Saturday 23 July. The non-competitive event is a women-only race held by Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Determined staff

The duo have been raising funds throughout the year for Cancer Research UK, with the help of their colleagues and have, so far, totalled £1,305.41. Their fundraising activities included weekly cake sales at the store during July, a book stall, a ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ competition and the sponsored race.

Optical assistant Abbie explains why they took part: ‘We did a bit of training, but for us the race was more about doing something worthwhile for a charity that we know will help everyone at some point. It was such a great experience and we had lots of fun. We got absolutely filthy on the mudslide at the end!’

Team support

Store director, Stephen Auty, is full of praise for his team: ‘Lauren and Abbie have done a fantastic job to raise such an impressive amount of money for charity and we’re all really proud of them. The staff were keen to help with the girls’ efforts and the store has been filled with posters, glittery decorations and charity boxes all year!’
