Hillsborough Specsavers have sponsored the Sheffield Schools Cricket Federation league and its Finals Day, which took place on Thursday 9 July at Hallam Cricket Club in Sheffield.

Specsavers in Hillsborough donated £400 to pay for venue hire, equipment and prizes, so that 26 secondary schools across Sheffield could compete to be named the best cricket teams in the city.

On Finals Day five cup finals were played with the winners, Year 7 Birkdale, Year 8 Fir Vale, Year 9 Ecclesfield and Year 10 Birkdale being presented with a Specsavers Trophy.

Special accolades were also presented to Rameer Singh, Awais Bhatti, Haris Hussain and Benedict McKenzie-Smith who all won Player of the Match in their respective finals.

Gary Bamford, store manager at Hillsborough Specsavers, commented: ‘We witnessed some enormous talent at Abbeydale Cricket Club today. Perhaps we’ve even seen the next Michael Vaughan or Freddie Flintoff in action! It was great fun for me and the rest of the Specsavers team to spend time with the players and help present the well-deserved accolades.’

All teams were presented with Specsavers goody bags containing mugs, pens and other treats for taking part.
