High Wycombe opticians supports One Can Trust
High Wycombe eyecare experts are calling on residents to donate one item to support the work of the One Can Trust Foodbank.
The team from Specsavers in the town is collecting donations of non-perishable food and hygiene supplies in particularly short supply at the foodbank, which supports individuals and families in financial crisis in the area.
A word from the store director
Heena Thaker, store director at Specsavers in High Wycombe, said: ‘Foodbanks like One Can Trust work tirelessly to help provide basic food supplies to families in need. We were shocked to learn from them that one in every five children in High Wycombe goes to bed hungry.
‘That is why, if you can spare just one item, we ask that you donate it to our foodbank collection box in store. Pasta sauce, tinned ham, corned beef, biscuits and toiletries are in short supply, but any item you can spare would be much appreciated.’
A word from the foodbank
David Rooke, chair of trustees of One Can Trust, added: ‘We are really appreciative of the support of Specsavers, as the need for food is unfortunately continuing week in and week out.
'We continue to send out approximately 250 food parcels a month, and over the course of a year, with the support of hundreds of people in the community donating food and volunteering to organise it all, we are feeding more than 5,000 people in Wycombe and the surrounding areas who otherwise would be falling through the cracks.’
