Children at Ysgol Y Gelli try on their new vests

To mark National Road Safety Week (17- 23 November), Specsavers Caernarfon pledged to raise awareness about road safety among local school children by donating high visibility vests to local primary schools.

Five primary schools and local Girl Guides

Children at five primary schools and local Girl Guides groups in Caernarfon were presented with high visibility vests by Dyfan Jones, store director at Specsavers on Bridge Street.

A share of 100 high visibility vests were donated to Ysgol Y Gelli, Ysgol Yr Hendre, Ysgol Santes Helen, Ysgol Maesincla and Ysgol Pendalar.

Difficult for motorists to see children

Dyfan comments: ‘At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with increasingly wintery weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians. Many children are walking home from school at dusk, which is a particularly hazardous time.

‘With this in mind, we decided to spread the message of Road Safety Week while increasing the safety of children in Caernarfon and the surrounding areas by donating 100 high visibility vests to local schools.

‘As part of the initiative, we are also hoping to raise awareness of free glasses and eye tests that are available to under 16-year-olds. Regular eye tests are important, as early detection can reduce the risk of serious eye problems in the long term.’
