Hessle support British Heart Foundation charity
Hessle Specsavers is showing it has a heart for fundraising by rocking up in red to help in the fight against the UK’s biggest killer.
The team at Hessle Specsavers dressing up in red-coloured outfits to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF). The charity was challenging colleagues, friends and pupils to ‘Rock Up In Red’ as part of its month-long heart disease awareness campaign.
Sadly, nearly 24,000 men and women died as a result of coronary heart disease in Yorkshire and The Humber between 2008 and 2010.
High blood pressure
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, can be a warning sign of heart problems and is detectable during a Specsavers eye test. Through careful examination of the retina, an optometrist can view small changes in the blood vessels in the back of the eye, which can indicate cardiovascular disease.
Eye tests show underlying health problems
Kay Weaver, store director commented: ‘It is shocking that so many people from our region suffer from heart and circulatory disease. Fortunately, the retina is a key window for our optometrists to pick up on underlying health problems beyond simply identifying vision loss.
‘We thought the time was right to once again show that our heart is in the right place by raising funds in-store to fight the UK’s biggest killer. All and any support from our customers is hugely appreciated.’
