Banbridge Specsavers marked Dementia Awareness Week (15-21 May) with over half of its staff having completed Dementia Friends training, an initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society.

The comprehensive training is designed to help staff become better qualified to understand the needs of customers suffering from dementia.

Staff are Dementia Friends

Qualified staff are now recognised as ‘Dementia Friends’ and wear special badges on their uniforms to make customers and patients aware of staff’s increased level of awareness and understanding of dementia.

Patient support

Wayne Watson, store director at Specsavers Banbridge said, ‘We’re delighted to undertake Dementia Friends training and I feel it really has helped us as a team support any patients who have dementia and their families.’
