Specsavers Oban have received great support from locals
Oban are on track to make record donations to VAO this year

Specsavers is a proud supporter of eyecare charity Vision Aid Overseas and the team in Oban is encouraging the local community to help continue to support the worthwhile cause.

Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) provides eyecare and glasses for people in developing countries, who otherwise would not have access to optical care. The charity raises money by collecting old glasses for recycling.

Specsavers Oban is able to make huge donations of specs to VAO every year, thanks to the generosity of local residents. In 2015 alone, the George Street opticians donated more than 1000 pairs of specs. So far this year Oban has collected more than 400 frames meaning they are on track to make record donations throughout 2016.

Great local support

Kenneth MacDonald, director of Specsavers in Oban, said: ‘The support we have received for VAO from locals has been brilliant over the years and we would love for that to continue.

‘We collect glasses in store all year round meaning that whether you’ve postponed your New Year clear out or are thinking ahead to a spring clean, if you come across any old and unwanted frames you can recycle them with us.’

Specsavers and Vision Aid Overseas have a joint commitment to provide eyecare for people living in Zambia. As part of its ongoing fundraising for the charity, Specsavers has to date channelled more than £800,000 into the Zambian partnership.
