The team at Specsavers in Worcester have been busy raising awareness about their home visiting service, Specsavers Healthcall.

They have been visiting doctor’s surgeries and care homes in the local area to talk to residents about the new service, which provides eyecare at home to those who cannot visit a high street optician unaccompanied due to a physical or mental disability.

Staff from Specsavers Opticians in Pontypridd donned colourful t-shirts and decorated the store to highlight a mobile optical service that supports housebound customers.

Balloons and t-shirts

Staff pinned up balloons, and wore t-shirts to promote Healthcall, the service that sees qualified opticians visit housebound customers unable to make it into store.

The mobile opticians use a portable eye testing kit and have a range of spectacles that customers can choose from, with the same in-store offers available to them.

Specsavers Healthcall provides eyecare services at home to those who cannot visit a high street optician unaccompanied due to a physical or mental disability.

Lifeline

The optician will visit your home at a pre-arranged time and will call an hour before the appointment to check that it’s still convenient. During the visit they will ask you about your eyecare history and any problems you may be having. They will then conduct an eye test, using equipment specially designed for use in the home.

To raise the awareness with aplomb, the team at Specsavers in Farnham decided to host an Orange October!  From orange cup cakes to teams dons bright orange attire, stand out was certainly created.

A creative writing competition has launched for budding bards aiming to get to the heart of what caring means to family, friends and carers in the community.

Competition

The competition, launched by Carers UK and supported by Specsavers Healthcall, is open to everyone and welcomes poems and short stories on all aspects of caring – exploring the joys, challenges and complex emotions that come with looking after a loved one.
