Grab your headwear as Specsavers Whitby is supporting Wear A Hat Day for the Brain Tumour Research charity, the UK’s premier brain tumour awareness fundraising event.
Specsavers Whitby is holding a tombola at New Quay Road, on Friday 29th March, and is inviting people to join in by wearing a hat and making a donation to Brain Tumour Research.
The event is a great opportunity to help raise awareness that routine eye tests can detect signs of brain tumours.
A word from the Store Director
Sophie Harland, Store Director at Specsavers Whitby, comments: ‘Many people are unaware that eye tests are not only critical for your eyes but your wider health too. A routine test allows opticians to detect serious sight problems and, in some cases, life-threatening brain tumours.
'Wear A Hat Day is the culmination of Brain Tumour Awareness month and people across the country will be donning beanies and boaters, top hats and trilbies, fascinators and fedoras, and making donations to Brain Tumour Research.
Sophie concludes: 'I'm proud that we're supporting the charity’s pioneering network of dedicated research Centres of Excellence across the UK. I hope as many people as possible will join us. All those who take part in Wear A Hat Day are helping to fund the fight against brain tumours.'
What is Wear A Hat Day?
Wear A Hat Day has raised over a million pounds since Brain Tumour Research was launched ten years ago and is the culmination of Brain Tumour Awareness Month in March. The big day will see schools, workplaces, families and individuals across the UK fundraising and taking part in fun events to raise awareness of brain tumours and help fund life-saving research.
A word from Brain Tumour Research Chief Executive
Sue Farrington Smith MBE, chief executive of the charity, comments: 'Wearing a hat for the day is a simple and fun way of raising awareness and money. It also sends a great message of hope, solidarity and support for patients and their families and those like me who have lost a loved one to this dreadful disease.
‘We are extremely grateful to the team at Specsavers Whitby, and wish them all the best for a successful event and great fun on the day.’
The charity is urging others to rally their organisations and contacts to get involved in Wear A Hat Day by wearing a hat and making a donation, buying specially-designed pin badges or a limited-edition brooch as well as wristbands, baseball caps and even a hat for their car
