Winning eyecare and customer service
Specsavers in Hartlepool is a long established store, a real part of the town’s community and leads the way when it comes to customer service and providing high quality eyecare.
The Middleton Grange store opened in the early 1990s and since then the team has won a multitude of awards.
Over the years the store has scooped the ‘Best of Health Awards’ organised by the Hartlepool Mail and numerous business awards. In 2012 the Hartlepool store won the nationally prestigious Optician Magazine Practice of the Year and in 2014 won Specsavers’ National Award for Excellence in Customer Service.
Opening with just three members of staff, the store now employs a team of 34 including two local apprentices. Eleven other young people have taken up apprenticeship opportunities and have begun their careers at Hartlepool.
Currently there are seven eye testing rooms which enable around 450 eye tests to be carried out each week, and with another testing room due to come online soon the capacity will expand to over 2,000 tests every month!
With over 1,320 frames to choose from in-store, the team prides itself on being able to meet people’s needs and choices whatever their taste.

Ian Walker, director of Specsavers in Hartlepool, said: ‘We have over 130 years’ experience between us we have a great team spirit in store. We get involved with all sorts of projects and schemes outside of work and many of our customers pop in just to say ‘hello’ as they are passing by. I’m really proud to work with such a great group of people who are so dedicated – we really do love our work.’
