Specsavers in Harborne has supported a local school to deliver much needed equipment to children in The Gambia.

Students from Sixth Form College Solihull raised over £8,500 to fund their visit to Abuko, delivering resources such as clothes, books and stationary, as well as glasses donated by Specsavers.

‘When the Sixth Form College in Solihull appealed to businesses asking for donations, we were happy to support them by providing glasses to deliver to the children,’ said Amit Madlani, store director. ‘Poverty is very prominent in Abuko and the children have no access to eyecare, so the glasses we donated were very well received by the children.’

During their visit, the sixth form students volunteered their time at Jungkung Jemous Memorial Nursery and Lower Basic School in Abuko, delivering interactive activities to help the children’s development, in addition to donating various resources to support their learning.
