Did you know that, while millions of people wear contact lenses, many do not look after them properly – leaving them at risk of damaging their eye health.
Fortunately, your local Specsavers store in Hampshire is here to help with some top tips on how to care for your lenses and keep your vision healthy.
Keep them clean and fresh
You should always wash and dry your hands before putting your contact lenses in or taking them out again, to avoid them becoming contaminated.
Never share used lenses with anyone else, even if they have the same prescription as you. And never wash your contact lenses (or your eye when wearing them) with saliva or tap water, stick to solutions or eye drops designed for their use.
Stay awake and alert
Unless you have been told by your optician that you should, never sleep in your contact lenses. Even after a big night out, you need to take them out – you could set a reminder on your phone if you think it would help.
It is also important to be alert to anything that might contaminate your lenses. You should never wear them while swimming, either in a pool or in the sea, or in the shower. It is a good idea to put your contact lenses in before applying makeup and to close your eyes when using hairspray, for example.
Help is at hand
You should have an eye test every two years – unless you have been told to have one more often – and have a contact lenses check-up once a year.
So if you need further help and advice with your contact lenses, why not pop into your local Specsavers store in Hampshire soon.
