Hamilton opticians' Guide Dogs Week
Staff at Specsavers in Hamilton are reaching out to customers and local communities in aid of the Guide Dogs Week 2015 theme ‘Let’s Glow’, by donning neon to show their support for the hundreds of people living with sight loss in the local community.
To mark the charity’s annual awareness and fundraising week - which takes place from the 3-11 October - store staff will be dressing up in bright clothes on Saturday 10 October. Customers visiting the Quarry Street store will get the chance to take away glow sticks in exchange for kind donations and tasty treats will be on offer in a bake sale.
One lucky customer will win a guide dog soft toy in the Guess the Puppy’s Name competition and there will also be a game of Pin the Tail on the Dog. No dogs will be harmed in the activity!
Emma Foster, store director of Specsavers Hamilton, said: ‘Specsavers has been a proud supporter of Guide Dogs for more than 10 years. Thanks to the generosity of our customers we have raised a nationwide total of £270,000 in the past four years, which has funded 25 guide dog puppies. We’d like to encourage old and new faces to join us in-store to raise money for the cause.’
Join in with ‘Let’s glow’ fun
Lisa Bell, Guide Dogs’ corporate partnerships officer, said: ‘Every hour another person in the UK loses their sight, and the impact is life changing. The Guide Dogs charity is here to make sure that when someone loses their vision they don’t have to lose their freedom as well. This Guide Dogs Week we want to reach even more people to raise awareness and reach our biggest ever Guide Dogs Week fundraising target of £1million. Everyone is invited to join in the ‘Let’s Glow’ fun, meet some amazing people and have a good time!’
Specsavers customers can also get involved in Guide Dogs Week by visiting www.guidedogs.org.uk/letsglow, or can simply support the cause by texting FREEDOM to 70007 to donate just £3, or even pop in to a store to pick up a glow in the dark pin badge for £1.
