Optician by day, writer by night, Specsavers store director Rob Winlow’s latest musical play is coming to Goole.
Austen is a new musical which explores Jane Austen’s relationships with her parents, her little known real life romances and her struggle to become a published author in a male dominated industry.
Originally written by Rob Winlow, Austen was co-written by multi award-winning writer Bernie C Byrnes, and is directed by West End director Matt Aston. Described as an ‘engaging new work’ by Broadway Baby, Austen was a sell-out show at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, and has been newly developed for the forthcoming tour.
The tour will stop off at Beverley and Doncaster, and will be at The Junction Theatre in Goole on Friday 12 June at 7.30pm.
A word from Rob
'It's great to focus on something completely different from the day job in my spare time', said Rob, store director of Specsavers in Goole. Whilst there are musicals about her novels there are none, to my knowledge, about Jane herself.
I spent a lot of time researching, reading biographies and letters dating back to the early 1800s. I’ve loved getting into Jane Austen’s story and bringing it to life and I hope everyone enjoys watching the show as much as I’ve enjoyed working on it.
The show was a huge success at the Fringe last August and at the prestigious Jane Austen Festival in Bath, but there’s something extra special about bringing it home to Goole. It’s great that family and friends can come and see the show, and hopefully some of our loyal Specsavers customers will come along too!’
Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and are on sale now from Junction Theatre in Goole: 01405 763652.
