A woman from Hendon has been chosen out of hundreds of people across the South East as a regional finalist for the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Miroslava Holečková aged 35, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if she wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards. Glasses wearers have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online and entering in stores across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Miroslava was invited to visit Specsavers in Golders Green to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
Making a statement
Miroslava, who’s originally from Slovakia but has lived in London for 15 years, said: ‘I started wearing glasses when I was 12 and have always quite liked wearing them. I think it’s important to be bold with your glasses and make a statement. At the moment I have eight pairs and really enjoy experimenting with different looks to suit different outfits and moods. I’m thrilled to have made it this far in the competition and am keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be invited to the grand final.’
Tejin Shah, store director at Specsavers in Golders Green, said: ‘We’re thrilled that Miroslava has been selected as a regional semi-finalist. It’s great to see someone from Golders Green representing us in the competition and we wish her all the best for the next stage.’
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If she triumphs in her age category, Miroslava could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
