Give the gift of vision this New Year in Bitterne
Specsavers in Bitterne are encouraging local people to consider the charity Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) when making their purchases this New Year.
Increasing civilian access to eyecare services
670 million people, which accounts for 10 per cent of the world's population, are disadvantaged by poor vision and a lack of glasses. VAO works in Africa to increase civilian access to eyecare services and combat poverty in the region.
Store director of Specsavers in Bitterne, Leighton Simmons said: ‘Specsavers have a long-standing relationship with Vision Aid Overseas and all our store staff strongly believe in the work that they do in the six developing countries they support in Africa.
‘Since 2003 Specsavers stores across the UK have collected and recycled more than a quarter of a million glasses and collected hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity. Customer donations and the recycled glasses make a substantial contribution to opening eyecare outreach clinics.’
