Staff from the Specsavers stores in Girlington, Bradford Darley Street, Otley and Ilkley recently took on a 20-mile walking relay between the four stores, in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Some 20 colleagues from across the participating stores took part in various legs of the walk, which began in Ilkley and finished in Girlington on Sunday 28 September 2014.

Over £1000 raised for charity

Staff collected donations in store throughout the week running up to the event and en-route on the day, raising over £1000 for charity. Pete Rooke, store director at Girlington Specsavers commented: ‘We are a friendly cluster of stores, which is why we chose the route from Ilkley to Otley, through to Bradford Darley Street and finishing in Girlington.

‘All of the staff from across the four stores embraced the challenge and were thrilled to be raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young.’

About Cardiac Risk in the Young

Alison Cox MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of CRY added: ‘For the past 20 years, CRY has been enormously grateful for the generosity of the public and local businesses which has allowed us to fund our range of specialist services, from screening and research to our network of bereavement support.

‘Since we launched in 1995, the charity has gone from strength to strength - indeed, our pioneering cardiac screening programme is now testing more than 15,000 young people every year across the UK.

‘On behalf of all of us at CRY, I would like to say a huge “thank you” to the teams from these four branches of Specsavers for choosing us as a beneficiary for this event and for helping to raise further awareness of CRY and our work.’
