Specsavers Portishead raises money for Guide Dogs
Members of the team at Specsavers Portishead joined by dogs Gem and Thistle for Guide Dogs fundraiser

Customers visiting Specsavers Portishead were greeted by two special guests as part of a fundraising day for Guide Dogs.

Gem and Thistle, accompanied by their handlers, were at the store as part of fundraising to mark Guide Dogs Week (4-12 October).

Staff wore Guide Dogs t-shirts as well as selling cupcakes. To help further boost the fundraising total, customers could also take part in a ‘guess the name of the toy puppy’ competition and buy Guide Dogs pin badges and teddies.

‘It was a really enjoyable day and we’re delighted Gem and Thistle were able to come down and join us,’ said store director David Perrigo. ‘Specsavers has a long association with Guide Dogs and we wanted to do something special to support them so a big thank you to everyone that came along to support the charity.’

This event is part of an ongoing partnership with Guide Dogs which has already seen Specsavers raise enough money to pay for the breeding and training costs of 25 guide dog pups. Guide Dogs provides mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people. It also campaigns for the rights of people with visual impairment, educates the public about eyecare and funds eye disease research.
