Customers visiting Burnham-on-Sea Specsavers were greeted by a special guest as part of a fundraising day for Guide Dogs.

Rod Carne and his four-legged friend visited the store as part of fundraising activity to mark Guide Dogs Week (4-12 October).

Staff also each paid £1 to dress in bright neon colours and the store was decorated with brightly coloured balloons. Customers were able to take part in a raffle as well as purchase Guide Dog teddies, with all the money going to the charity.

‘We were really pleased that Rod was able to come down for our fundraising event,’ said store director, Rama Venkat. ‘Specsavers has a long association with Guide Dogs and it was great to be able to do something special to support them so thank you to everyone who came along on the day.’

This event was part of an ongoing partnership with Guide Dogs for the Blind which has already seen Specsavers raise enough money to pay for the breeding and training costs of 25 guide dog pups. Guide Dogs provides mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people. It also campaigns for the rights of people with visual impairment, educates the public about eyecare and funds eye disease research.
