Staff from Specsavers in Street swap specs for boots for a sponsored walk

Two charities have benefited from the hard work of Specsavers in Street after a successful fundraising week from Sunday 28 August.

Staff raised a total of £230, which will be shared between Macmillan Cancer Support and local charity, West Mendip Hospital League of Friends. The team at the store organised a week of fundraising activities, starting with a 10-mile sponsored walk to neighbouring Wells.

Two great charities

‘We’re very happy with our fundraising total for the week, and delighted to have supported these two great charities,’ commented store director, Colin Shearer. ‘The team put in a lot of effort, and our customers were happy to dig deep for a good causes as always, so I’m grateful to everyone involved.’

Customers and passers-by were invited to join in with fundraising activities throughout the week which included a children’s colouring competition and a ‘guess the name of the bear’ game.

Store manager Catherine Pinkawa added: ‘We’d like to say a big thank you to all our customers, as well as friends and family, who donated during the week. The sponsored walk, which we completed in 2 hours, was a great way to start things off and the rest of the week was equally as successful.’

National charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, provides financial, practical and medical support to those affected by cancer, while the Somerset based West Mendip Hospital League of Friends offers training services and financial support to staff and patients of the West Mendip Hospital.
