Children at Oasis Academy Short Heath will stand out more easily in the dark this winter, thanks to a donation of high-visibility vests from Specsavers in Erdington.

The team donated 100 vests to youngsters at the school, helping them to stay safe when out and about during the darker months.

Manjit Sidhu, store director, said: ‘We all know how dangerous the roads can be during the darker winter months, particularly for children walking to and from school. Quite often it’s difficult for motorists to see pedestrians wearing dark clothes at night, so hopefully these hi-vis vests will help children to be seen more easily and give parents some peace of mind.’

Mrs Michelle Lee, Principal at Oasis Academy Shorth Heath, added: ‘We’re very grateful to Specsavers for kindly donating these vests. Our pupils’ safety is of paramount importance to us, so these vests are particularly welcome at this time of year.’

Specsavers supports road safety charity, Brake, to inspire communities to take action on road safety and raise awareness of life-saving messages.
