Support the community as a volunteer

Specsavers team in Portishead is encouraging others to explore how they could support the local community through volunteering.

As the nation celebrates Volunteers’ Week, a member of the Specsavers team in Portishead is encouraging others to explore how they could support the local community through volunteering.

Pip Sharp, contact lens supervisor at the store, has been volunteering at Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary since 2013, helping to support the charity’s ongoing work re-homing cats and dogs.

‘The work Holly Hedge does to take care of abandoned and mistreated animals is so valuable and I really enjoy getting stuck in whenever I can,’ said Pip. ‘The whole team at Specsavers has also been really supportive by holding fundraising events and sponsoring some of the Sanctuary’s fundraising activities.’

Store director, Nic Johns, added: ‘Supporting our local community is really important to us, so it’s wonderful that our team shares that ethos and chooses to get involved in voluntary schemes like this.’

Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary has a variety of volunteer roles available, from dog walking and cat cuddling through to helping out in the office and organising events. To find out more, visit www.hollyhedge.org.uk
