Finalist shows off her specs in style in Inverness
A glamorous Nairn local has been chosen out of hundreds of people across Scotland as a regional finalist for the prestigious Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Doreen Johnson, aged 65, has been awarded the competitive regional finalist title in the over 60s category and has a tense wait ahead to find out if she has qualified for the final of the Specsavers competition. Doreen could win £10,000 in cash and an all-expenses trip to global fashion capital, New York, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 21st annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards in London on 11 October 2016.
Doreen is over the moon
‘I was equally surprised and thrilled to find out that I am a regional finalist and couldn’t wait to share the news with my friends and family,’ says an elated Doreen.
‘I’ve been wearing glasses for over 25 years and although I wear them for practical purposes, I always bear fashion in mind when picking a new pair. My advice to fellow specs wearers would be to wear your glasses with pride and don’t worry what other people might think.
‘I’m delighted to have made it this far in the competition and will have my fingers crossed for the next round.’
Celebrating the regional finalist title
Doreen was welcomed to her local Specsavers store in Inverness recently to be presented with a certificate, £150 Specsavers voucher and bottle of champagne to mark her achievement.
Store director Andy Carr, says: ‘The Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards offers the perfect opportunity for glasses wearers in Inverness to showcase their specs style to the whole country. We are delighted that Doreen has been chosen as a regional finalist.’
‘Doreen brightened up the store when she popped in to collect her prize and with her unique sense of style we think she would be a worthy winner. We wish her all the best for the next round of the competition.’
