Specsavers Leominster helped to ensure disadvantaged children received Christmas gifts by collecting 60 present-filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.
The store acted as a collection point for the initiative, which is run by UK-based charity, Samaritan’s Purse. The campaign encouraged staff, customers and the local community to get involved by filling a shoebox with a range of treats for youngsters who may not otherwise receive anything.
A word from the store director
‘Getting involved with Operation Christmas Child was really fulfilling for the whole team,’ said store director, Eira Morris. ‘It’s the fourth year running that we’ve organised the collection and we’re always bowled over by the support from the community. Christmas is such a joy-filled time, but there are some who don’t receive presents, so these shoeboxes are a great way to bring some Christmas cheer to underprivileged children.’
Samaritan’s Purse is an international relief and development organisation providing aid to disadvantaged communities in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Operation Christmas Child is one of the organisation’s biggest initiatives, with thousands of churches, schools and businesses across the country donating and collecting shoeboxes to be sent overseas.
