The teams in Blackburn banded together to hold a summer holiday fancy dress fun day for families to raise money for Derian House Children’s Hospice.

The special event was held at Lord Street Mall and people of all ages were invited to join the staff in the fancy dress of their favourite characters to enjoy a cool and colourful day of face painting, a henna artist and a special visit from the hospice’s Derian Danni.

An eye on the future

The team also held special clinics throughout the day to highlight the importance of eye health before children go back to school.

Staff from both stores were on hand advise parents to take this opportunity to get their child’s eye health checked, regardless of which stage of school they are in, by pointing out the benefits of noticing problems early.

Integral for development

Mandy Jeewooth, store retail director at Specsavers Blackburn, said: ‘By September, all parents have the usual basics ready for their child’s return to school, including uniforms, books and stationery. However, an eye exam is the one test a child won’t need to study for, and it’s just as integral to their development.

'Children with eyesight problems can find it quite difficult to articulate any issues they’re experiencing and thus suffer in silence.  Any undiagnosed visual problems could make it more difficult for a child to keep up with lessons.’
