Falkirk woman’s life changed
Falkirk local Irene Baird’s (72) life was changed after winning a pair of state-of-the-art hearing aids in a raffle.
Celebrating the store’s 25th anniversary
Specsavers in Falkirk, which has a weekly hearing clinic on Sundays, raffled the hearing aids, worth £1,995, in aid of Strathcarron Hospice during its 25th anniversary celebrations.
Irene was shocked and delighted to be announced the winner and said: ‘My daughter frequently told me that I needed hearing aids. She said I used to shout a lot, even though at the time, I didn’t think I was.
‘After seeing how much they helped two of my friends, I thought I’d enter Specsavers raffle and help a fantastic local cause at the same time. Never in a million years’ did I think I would win.
‘I went for a hearing check at the store and was fitted with the aids. I was surprised at how comfortable they were – I quite often forget they are even there.
‘My dad had hearing aids so I remember how big and noticeable they used to be but they’re so different now.
‘The improvement to my hearing is unbelievable. At the time, I didn’t realise how bad it was and the things I was missing out on. It is an absolute joy to be able to hear every detail and to not be bothered by background noise anymore.’
Advances in technology
Ryan Forbes, director of audiology at Specsavers in Falkirk, said: ‘We were very pleased to welcome Irene to the store for her hearing check. Modern advancements in digital hearing aid technology mean today’s hearing aids can vastly improve quality of life and are very comfortable and discrete.
‘It’s so important to have regular hearing checks from the age of 40. I’d urge anyone who thinks they may have a hearing impairment to book an appointment.’
