A manager and dispensing optician from Specsavers London Wall has travelled to Zambia to help provide better eye care facilities and train optical students in the nation
Eye opening trip
Alice Cole travelled to remote parts of Zambia as part of an outreach programme to help locals who didn’t have access to eye care facilities. As well as providing glasses and eye examinations to those less fortunate, Alice also helped to train local nurses too.
Supporting the community
Alice decided to organise the trip once she qualified as a dispensing optician. During her stay she dispensed 667 pairs of glasses in total.
A trip to remember
Alice said: ‘I really wanted to mark my qualification as a dispensing optician with something special and this trip certainly lived up to that! There are so many that are less fortunate than us here in the UK and got a real culture shock when I arrived home again. It’s been a real life changing experience and I can’t wait to organise my next adventure!’
