Specsavers in Cribbs Causeway, Filton and Bradley Stoke were excited to welcome new students from the University of the West of England (UWE) to the city of Bristol at this year’s freshers fair.
The event was held on Thursday 21 September at Frenchay campus in Bristol city centre. UWE’s freshers fair is one of the largest in the UK.
More than 11,500 students attended the fair and began their university journey. Alongside sports clubs and societies from the student union, local businesses and charities also attended.
At the Specsavers stall, the team gave away lots of freebies and offering eye health advice to the students. Leaflets for free eye tests and free contact lens trials were handed out and also VIP cards giving students 50% off.
Store director, Gaurav Patel, said ‘It was a great opportunity to get talking to the new students who make up a huge proportion of the population in our city.
‘We were delighted to attend freshers fair as there’s always a great atmosphere and emphasising the importance of eyecare to students is very important given the amount of time they spend reading and looking at a screen.’
Specsavers use digital retinal photography, depicting the back of eye to show any early signs of eye conditions. The opticians is also continuing to run the Driving and Vehicle License Agency (DVLA) services.
