Generous Exmouth residents dropped off 120 shoe boxes full of Christmas gifts to the town’s official collection point, Specsavers, for residents of Gabriel House, Exeter’s homeless shelter.
The boxes contained useful items such as blankets, torches, socks, hats and gloves, including a Christmas card addressed to Sir or Madam.
Raising a smile
The store collection was part of the Smile at a Stranger appeal to help Devon’s homeless and give them something to smile about on Christmas day.
Masterminded by practise manager, Kim Swinbourne the store window was swamped with generous donations from customers, staff and local residents.
Store director, Ria Heskins thanked everyone for their donations: ‘We’re so happy we could do something to help this wonderful cause and would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed.
The boxes were passed onto Gabriel’s House and were distributed on Christmas day to people visiting the shelter for Christmas dinner.’
