Specsavers in Arbroath is urging local kids to enter its specs colouring competition
The Arbroath opticians is running a fun specs colouring competition for kids

The Arbroath store has launched a colouring competition, tasking children under the age of 11 with designing a pair of specs.

Kids can enter by visiting the store in the Abbeygate centre to collect a specs template which comes in a range of three designs to choose from. Completed entries must be handed back to the store by 4 September.

Chance to win an art set

The creator of the winning design will receive a fabulous art and crafts set alongside five tickets to local indoor play centre, Jumping Joeys. The runner up will also win an art and crafts set.

Vanessa Campbell, dispensing consultant at Specsavers in Arbroath, said: ‘It is very important that all children from the age of four have regular eye tests every two years so we hope this in-store competition will encourage lots of young customers to visit us.

‘We’re looking for kids in the area to colour in the template and show us what their dream specs would look like. Youngsters can really let their imaginations run wild – we’re hoping to see lots of lovely colourful, sparkly designs!’

Regular eye tests for under 12s

Under 12saccomplish as much as 80 per cent of learning through their vision so if your child hasn’t had their first test yet, Specsavers recommends getting into a regular routine of eye examinations to minimise their chances of problems being carried into adulthood.

Many parents will book a test if they spot tell-tale signs like squinting, clumsiness, eye rubbing or sitting too close to the TV. But one in four children have undetected problems so it’s always best to check with an expert even if there are no symptoms.

The store has a fantastic range of glasses for kids including Disney, Marvel, Gruffalo and Moshi Monsters. All under 16s receive a free pair of glasses up to the value of £85 with NHS funding and Specsavers will give you a second pair from the same range for free.

SuperTough Trivex lenses are available free of charge with any children’s frames. The super strong lenses are almost impossible to break and include a UV filter to protect against UV sunlight.
