Specsavers Montrose’s emergency eye care provision has only been in force since 23 March and has already proven invaluable for many key workers in need of eye tests and emergency advice.

The store has been on-hand to help several customers through emergency appointments since the store closed to all but emergency and essential eye care and helped ensure key workers, including a lorry driver, was able to continue to work.

Specsavers stores, in line with government guidelines, have suspended routine testing for the foreseeable future but emergency and essential eye care is still available to those in need – including frontline staff and key workers.

A word from the store director

Store director Bridgeen Johnston, said: 'We are closed for business but we are open to ease the burden on hospitals and to take as much as pressure off of frontline staff as possible.

'We have been offering a home delivery service which is not usually available, but we are committed to going over and above to ensure we are there for those in need.

'Our staff are classed as key workers in order that they can provide this important emergency and essential eye care.  This allows us to support other key workers who couldn’t function without our help and people who would come to harm without our health expertise, especially where the usual hospital services and NHS facilities are being prioritised for the fight against COVID-19.

'Any key workers should know that we will do our utmost to help them as we cannot thank them enough for their valuable work during this pandemic, and we are also here for the wider public in the case of eye care emergencies.'

Social distancing

Bridgeen adds: 'We are trying our best to limit any face-to-face contact by completing consultations through telephone and not allowing customers instore. For any customers who still need to pick up prescriptions, we will phone them to let them know it has arrived and the customer, or someone on behalf of the customer, can pick up from the front door.'

All appointments which were booked in before the pandemic have been cancelled. When the store reopens, customers can get back in touch to reschedule their appointment.
