Two women from East Kilbride made it through to the semi-final stage of the renowned Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Erynn Gray (35) and Yvonne Creevy (65) from East Kilbride made it as far as the semi-finals in the national competition which celebrates those who wear their specs with style.
Celebrating locals with specs appeal
Erynn, a mum-of-three, entered the competition online after her daughter took a picture of her to update her Facebook profile image. After seeing the advert online, she decided to use the new picture for her entry.
She was surprised to find out she had made it to the semi-finals of the competition: ‘I’ve worn my glasses for more than 20 years and they’re now a part of who I am. I really enjoy experimenting with different styles of frames and I would encourage everyone to wear their glasses with pride.’
Yvonne, who entered the competition for the second year running, was also delighted to have made it to the semi-final. She said: ‘Making it through to this stage of the competition is a huge achievement.
‘Winning the competition would have been fantastic but I’m thrilled with the voucher for a new pair of frames.’
Welcomed to the store
The duo were welcomed to the East Kilbride store by manager Christine Robertson, who presented them both with a certificate and £150 gift voucher.
Christine said: ‘With two semi-finalists from the area, it’s clear to see that we have plenty of stylish spec wearers in East Kilbride.
‘We were delighted to welcome both Erynn and Yvonne to the store to present them with their voucher and bubbly.’
Now in its 21st year, the competition raises valuable funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which has totalled £300,000 to date. This year’s competition was launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, and champions looking and feeling great in your specs.
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public.
