Saad Azam is a finalist in this year’s Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year and goes forward to the next stage of the competition where he could win the chance to be part of the glitzy awards night in October and the top prize of £10,000.
Saad, who lives in Dungannon and studies at Lancaster University, received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher from his local Specsavers store in Cookstown.
Raises cash for Kidscape
The campaign which was launched earlier this year by dancing star Oti Mabuse, also raises cash for children’s anti-bullying charity Kidscape. For every entry accepted Specsavers have donated £1 and over half a million pounds has been generated for the charity in the past 10 years.
Glitzy awards night in London
Oti along with stars of TV, radio and film will be VIP guests at the awards night held in top venue 8 Northumberland Avenue in London, when one overall winner will scoop the top prize and the title, ‘Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year’.
Nominated by girlfriend Amy
Saad said, ‘I was nominated by my lovely girlfriend Amy who’s from Dungannon and I’m so thrilled to reach this stage of the competition. I’ve been wearing glasses for over 7 years and as well as being essential for my Management and IT degree at Lancaster University, specs are also brilliant for achieving different looks. I can make myself look older or younger with different frame styles. I love model David Gandy’s specs style - he has that classic look that never goes out of fashion.’
Congrats from Cookstown staff
Congratulating Saad, Cookstown store director Patrick Lynch said, ‘Saad is a super ambassador for specs wearers and the store team here are delighted he has been selected as a regional finalist. We wish him all the very best for the next round of judging and for his studies at Lancaster University.’
There are eight categories including a social media winner voted for by the public. All category winners who reach the grand final will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
