A Dumfries opticians took time out to encourage customers to donate to Alzheimer Scotland – and raised hundreds of pounds for the cause.

Over the last eight months, the team at the Specsavers store in the Loreburne Shopping Centre asked customers to donate in exchange for glasses MOTs and check-ups.

The store collected £370 from customers, and store directors matched that figure to take the total to £740.

Fantastic work
Rebecca Muir, community fundraiser at Alzheimer Scotland, popped into the store to thank the team for their donation.

Dumfries store manager Donna Millar said: ‘We work with customers living with dementia and their families, and we see the fantastic work that Alzheimer Scotland carries out in communities all over Dumfries.

‘We’re very proud to have raised such a fantastic amount for the charity and we know that the money will be put to good use.’

The team at the store is also supporting Dementia Friends – a training initiative which helps people develop a deeper understanding of dementia, and in doing so, helps employees support customers who are affected by the condition.
