Doug Perkins: a major opportunity for the optical profession to work together
Call to action from Specsavers at 100% Optical
Specsavers founder Doug Perkins is to give a keynote lecture at 100% Optical on the disruptive change facing optometry and what the profession needs to do about it.
The optometrist who changed the optical world in the 1980s will talk about his vision and passion for the future of optometry, and Specsavers’ commitment to clinical excellence.
He will be joined by Paul Morris, drector of optometry advancement and the ophthalmic director of Specsavers Opticians in Bridgend and Porthcawl. Paul is part of the team leading the development of enhanced optical services (EOS) for Specsavers.
Taking the profession forward
They will discuss the significant governance, administrative and clinical challenges ahead – against the backdrop of GOC standards of practice - and will present strategies to take the profession forward in a way that will benefit patients and practitioners.
Doug says, ‘I believe that all the challenges we hear about can be overcome. EOS is a major opportunity for the profession to work together. We need to convince NHS commissioners that their investment in optometry will deliver a great return in continuity of patient care as well as financially. The time to act is now.’
The lecture, The changing face of high street optometry – what part will you play?, is on the main stage at 100% Optical at 5pm on Sunday 7 February.
