Specsavers in Leominster are collecting unwanted specs and hearing aids to help raise funds for international charities Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) and Sound Seekers.
Donate your old specs
The team at Specsavers on West Street is asking customers to donate old specs and hearing aids to raise funds for eyecare and hearcare in developing countries. Donations can be dropped off at the collection point in-store to be recycled and refurbished to support the charities’ ongoing work.
Store director, Eira Morris, said: ‘We’re delighted that we have received nearly a thousand donations to date from our customers, which will provide vital support for the work of both charities.
‘Through changes in prescription or style, people may have specs that they no longer use, or hearing aids that have been updated and replaced and we’ll continue to offer a collection point in store where they can find a new use.’
VAO raises money by selling the materials from old glasses. The recycling method is environmentally friendly and enables the charity to fund its overseas projects.
Sound Seekers works hard to deliver sustainable, cost-effective projects that contribute to long-term support in Africa. They provide audiology training and equipment for hospitals and help children with hearing loss to get the education they deserve.
