Optician rows 42,000 metres for children's charity
Alun McDermott, who works at Specsavers in Bridgend, has helped to raise more than £3,000 for children’s charity, Ty Hafan, by rowing 42,000 metres at his local gym.
One million metres
34-year-old Alun joined a group of 30 amateur rowers to row more than one million metres to raise funds for the charity.
Alun said: ‘It was a great experience to be part of a team all pushing to hit that one million metre target for such an important cause. Ty Hafan is a charity that I am always keen to support, so when the opportunity came about to get involved in the fundraiser I jumped at the chance.’
Carly Jenkins, Alun’s manager at the Specsavers store on Adare Street, said: ‘It’s always encouraging to see members of staff tackle new challenges and this is a particularly impressive achievement, not just because of the distance Alun was able to cover, but also because of the amount of funds raised in such a short space of time.’
