Optometrist and director of Specsavers in Borehamwood and Hoddesdon, Kartik Bharadia is offering diabetes advice

Specsavers in Borehamwood & Hoddesdon are shining a light on the diabetes, which affects millions of people in the UK alone.

Optometrist and director of the stores, Kartik Bharadia is responding to Diabetes UK’s Know Diabetes, Fight Diabetes campaign by offering his insight into the link between diabetes and eye health.

A word from the store director

Kartik said: 'Diabetes affects around 4.5 million people in the UK and is one of the leading cause of blindness in the working age population.

'Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes which damages the blood vessels at the back of the eye and can lead to sight loss if untreated, so it is important for diabetics to have regular eye examinations.

'We screen patients for indicators of diabetes through digital retinal photography, which is included as part of every standard eye test for all over the age of 40, and for younger customers where appropriate. Our comprehensive eye examination, performed by an optometrist, can also help to diagnose and manage a number of other eye conditions.'
