Derry born star backs specs competition
One of Derry’s famous singing stars, Nadine Coyle has a new role as ambassador for the 2017 Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition. The former Thornhill College student who found fame with band Girls Aloud is encouraging specs wearers aged 16 and over to take a selfie and enter the competition.
Nadine was crowned Best Specs Newcomer at the 2016 awards and said, ‘I was thrilled to win the newcomer award last year, so it’s a real honour to help with the search to find the 2017 Spectacle Wearer of the Year.’
£10, 000 for overall winner
Finalists from throughout the UK and Ireland will be invited to a star-studded gala final in London and will be in with a chance of winning the overall award and £10,000 cash.
Derry store staff go walkabout
To encourage local glasses wearers to prove their specs appeal and enter the popular competition, the Derry~Londonderry store staff will be out and about Derry city centre chatting to shoppers and other retail store staff urging people to enter.
Over £400,00 raised for Kidscape to date
Specsavers will donate £1 per entry to anti-bullying charity Kidscape and monies raised will support the charity in providing training, support and advice for children, parents and schools. The competition has generated more than £400,000 for Kidscape over the past six years.
Five age categories
There are five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s. A Facebook favourite will also be voted for by the public. Each category winner receives a VIP makeover and will mingle with celebrities at the gala awards night held in London during October.
