Specsavers in Beckenham and Penge marked this year’s Dementia Awareness Week (15-21 May) by undertaking training to enhance their understanding of the condition and make them better able to accommodate customers with dementia.
Dementia Friends training
Across the country, members of staff from Specsavers completed their Dementia Friends training, an initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society. In doing so they become recognised as a Dementia Friends - with a badge to wear on their uniform to highlight their heightened level of dementia awareness to customers.
Specsavers’ home- and care home- visiting teams – Specsavers Healthcall – have also endeavoured to complete the training.
Understanding customer needs
Ushma Patel, store director as Specsavers Beckenham and Penge said: ‘Dementia is a condition that has extremely debilitating consequences and it is important that, as a team, we are able to better understand the needs of our customers that suffer from it.’
