Store director at Specsavers Lerwick, Thomas Bruin has been out delivering glasses and contact lenses on his bike directly to the front door of customers who urgently need them.

Specsavers stores, in line with government guidelines, have suspended routine testing for the foreseeable future but emergency and essential eye care is still available to those in need – including frontline staff and key workers. This eye care provision is proving invaluable for the local community.

Going above and beyond for the community

Store director, Thomas Bruin, said: ‘A home delivery service is not usually available but we are committed to going over and above to ensure we are there for those in need.

‘Opticians are classed as key workers in order that they can provide this important emergency eye care. This allows us to support other key workers who couldn’t function without our help and people in the community who would come to harm without our health expertise, especially where the usual hospital services and NHS facilities are being prioritised for the fight against COVID-19.’
