A member of the Specsavers Worcester team took the plunge to raise funds for Diabetes UK swimming 44 miles and raising £650.
A word from the store director
Store director and optometrist, Dean Roberts signed up to the Swim22 Challenge organised by the charity 12 weeks ago. He doubled the 22-mile target (the width of the English Channel) with an impressive 44 miles.
‘Diabetes is one of the fastest growing health conditions today, and a complication of the disease is diabetic retinopathy which, left untreated, can cause blindness,’ said Dean. ‘That’s why I was so keen to not only raise funds for Diabetes UK but also to raise awareness of the condition.
‘I set myself the target of swimming 44 miles – essentially the distance to France and back – but quickly realised it was quite a tough target, trying to fit in lengths after work. However, I’m delighted to have completed it and incredibly thankful to everyone who has sponsored me so far.’
