Strictly star Oti Mabuse has launched the search for the Britain’s proudest glasses wearer – with a £10,000 cash prize up for grabs. But could an Essex resident grab the crown for the third time?
For the past two years the accolade has been awarded to two Essex boys, including fitness instructor Shane Haron from Romford in 2018 and Love Island heart-throb-to-be, Alex Miller from Silver End in 2017.
Essex-residents will twice in a row
Oti who owns 20 pairs of glasses, only to change to contact lenses when she dances said: ‘I’ve been wearing my glasses since I was 10 and I wear them all the time. I can’t live without them.
‘There’s so many styles to choose from, specs are a great way for people to express themselves through fashion. I feel more confident when I put my specs on. I wouldn’t be Oti without them.’
Entrants simply have to send Specsavers their favourite and tell us why they love their specs. For each entry, Specsavers donates £1 to anti-bullying charity Kidscape. Over the past 10 years, Spectacle Wearer of the Year has raised more than half a million pounds for the cause. The money raised helps support the charity in providing practical support to children and families affected by bullying.

From the entries 10 regional semi-finalists will be chosen in the East. Nationwide, seven finalists, plus a social media favourite voted for by the public, will be invited to a celebrity-packed awards ceremony in London, where an overall winner will scoop the top award and cash prize.
