The Cwmbran store has strengthened its optical team with the addition of a newly qualified dispensing optician.
Following her qualification, Laura Morris, 24, from Pontypool, Wales, will be responsible for all technical issues with lenses, including ensuring they are fitted in frames correctly, and will also form part of the management team at the Llewellyn Walk store.
Laura has been working at the Welsh store for four years as an optical assistant, but has spent the last three years juggling her full-time role with studying for her qualifications, including weekly assignments.
Laura says: ‘When I started here as an assistant, I didn’t know much about the optics industry. It was daunting at first, but I quickly fell in love with optics, and I’ve never wanted to leave since.
‘I’m really grateful to the store, who were kind enough to help pay for my course, and I’m already looking at other courses in areas such as contact lenses to develop further. Everyone here has been really supportive and I’ve been able to get some great advice from experienced people along the way, which stood me in good stead both on the course, and will continue to as I begin my new role.’
Store director, Rhys Williams, said: ‘We’d like to congratulate Laura on qualifying as a dispensing optician. In her time at the store, she has built up a great rapport with our customers and is a familiar face for the community here. She’s a great addition to the dispensing team.
‘On top of that, by increasing the number of dispensing opticians in store, we are able to provide an even slicker customer service that will cut down on waiting times while still maintaining the quality of eyecare that we pride ourselves on here in Cwmbran.
‘We place great value in investing in and developing the optometrists of the future, and we have a staff development programme here that provides fantastic opportunities for people to enjoy long and successful careers at Specsavers.’
