A Wilmslow shopper was pleasantly surprised to get more than he bargained for as he opened his birthday post.

Bruce Fixter lives in Bramhall but regularly shops in Wilmslow. Among his birthday cards he received an innocuous-looking letter which, much to his surprise, informed him that he would be repaid nearly £200 for a purchase he made on a recent trip to Wilmslow's Specsavers

Mr Fixter said the windfall couldn’t have come at a better time, as he is currently making plans for his upcoming ruby wedding anniversary celebrations.

Refunded £198 just for completing a survey

The prize was awarded this week by Chris Haygarth, store director at Specsavers Wilmslow. Mr Fixter was automatically entered into a prize draw after completing Specsavers’ customer experience survey, and has been refunded £198 for the cost of his new glasses and eye test.

Ruby wedding celebrations

He says: ‘I couldn’t believe my luck when I opened the letter on my birthday; it was such a nice surprise. My wife says that I should buy a lottery ticket, the way my luck is going. ‘Luckily for her, I’ll be putting the money towards our ruby wedding celebration in a couple of months. We are both delighted.’

Specsavers store director Chris Haygarth added: ‘Every month we refund a customer who completes our survey after an appointment. We were all so pleased to hear that Mr Haygarth found out about the windfall on his birthday, and that he will be putting his winnings to such a lovely cause.

‘We all wish Mr Fixter and his wife a happy ruby wedding anniversary, and hope that the extra cash helps the celebrations go off with a bang.’
