We know that communication is important, particularly at the moment, which is why a Specsavers Cowley audiologist was pleased to help an elderly lady with her broken hearing aid.
Her daughter put a call into the store and spoke to audiologist Sebastian de Scarfo, explaining what the problem was. She wasn’t confident that the hearing aid could be fixed, but when she brought it to the store, Sebastian was able to repair it there and then.
‘On the call, the lady’s daughter explained that it was proving really difficult for her mother not to be able to hear properly,’ said Sebastian. ‘She was trying to keep in regular touch, but her mum wasn’t picking up the phone when she was calling. I was more than happy to be able to help and pleased that hopefully now the lines of communication will be easier to maintain, something which is essential, especially for the elderly, with lockdown ongoing.
‘While we are closed for routine testing for the foreseeable future, we are open for urgent and essential care and keen to help where we can. As well as being in store to deal with repairs, we’ve been out safely dropping off hearing aid batteries and spare parts to those that need them.’
Open for care
Specsavers' teams are classed as key workers to provide urgent and essential eye care to those who need it. That includes supporting other key workers who couldn’t function without their help and people who would come to harm without their health expertise, especially where the usual hospital services and NHS facilities are being prioritised for the fight against COVID-19.
Customers can phone the store for advice and to be assessed on the level of care that they might need, the only exception being key workers who are able to walk in and seek immediate advice. Glasses and contact lenses can also be purchased online for customers with a current prescription.
Specsavers has set up an Ask the Expert group on Facebook for people to ask our team of expert optometrists and audiologists questions they might have about their sight or hearing while stores are open for urgent and essential appointments only. The group can be found here.
