A mother of two from Coventry is in the frame for a national award after being selected as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Keisha Kenion, 26, beat off competition from thousands of other specs wearers to make it through to the regional semi-finalist stage. Coventry born and bred, she spotted the competition on social media and so thought she’d give it a go; ‘I love wearing my specs and wouldn’t be without them,’ she said. ‘It was great to get the news that I’d made it through to the semi-finals, I couldn’t believe it.’
In recognition of her achievement Keisha received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 voucher from her local Specsavers store in Coventry. She’s now in with a chance of winning £10,000 along with a luxury holiday for two to New York and a glasses wardrobe from Specsavers worth £1,000.
Store director Alistair Campbell commented: ‘We’re chuffed to bits for Keisha – she’s done so well to make it through to this round and we’ll be wishing her all the best in the hope that she makes it through to the final.’
The awards were launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, earlier this year. If she triumphs in her age category, Keisha could meet Kimberly and other stars at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
