Collecting specs for charity
Coalville Specsavers has collected more than 670 pairs of unwanted specs for charity thanks to donations from customers.
Unwated specs raise vital funds
The team has been asking customers to drop off their old glasses for Vision Aid Overseas (VAO), collecting 672 pairs during the last month. Once the specs have been donated to VAO, they are recycled and sold on to support the charity’s ongoing work in developing countries.
‘Collecting so many pairs of specs in just one month is an incredible achievement and will help VAO continue their fantastic work to make eyecare accessible for people in developing countries,’ said Shailan Ruparelia, store director. ‘Most people who wear glasses will have old pairs they no longer use. Donating them to VAO can help to improve the quality of life for those in countries where eyecare is extremely limited.’
Vision Aid Overseas
Vision Aid Overseas is dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eyecare in developing countries and raises money by selling the materials recycled from old glasses. The process is environmentally friendly and enables the charity to fund its overseas projects. For more information visit www.visionaidoverseas.org
