Colchester kids day in aid of Help for Heroes
Parents and children from Colchester were invited to join their local opticians for a kid’s themed fun day in aid of Help for Heroes.
On Tuesday 28 October, staff from Specsavers Colchester, located at 17-33 Long Wyre Street, hosted dedicated clinics for children, helping to teach them all about the importance of eye health.
Following the success of last years’ fancy dress themed day, staff donned fancy dress costumes with a jungle theme. While children learnt about their eyes they also had the opportunity to have their faces painted and watched a selection of children’s television shows.
High-visibility vest donation
Nick Hagan, store director, says: ‘We had a lot of fun planning this activity and the response from customers was really positive. We are delighted to have raised over £400 and would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
‘Every child we tested received a complimentary high visibility jacket to ensure they are seen on the roads this winter. In addition, we donated £1.00 from every sight test to the Help for Heroes charity.
Specsavers has campaigned throughout the past decade to highlight the link between vision and road safety. In addition to offering free vests to children on the fun day, Specsavers Colchester will be distributing 1,000 high visibility jackets as part of this year’s National Road Safety Week, taking place 17-23 November.
