Coalville residents in need over the festive period will benefit from the generosity of the team at Specsavers.
Members of staff rallied together to collect numerous non-perishable food items for those struggling in the local area over Christmas.
The team collected tins and jars of food, biscuits, soups, toiletries and other essentials which will be sorted into emergency food parcels by volunteers.
‘Christmas is a wonderful time of year for so many of us, but we must remember that there are those, even in our local communities, who are not as fortunate,’ said store director, Shailan Ruparelia. ‘As part of the local community, we have a responsibility to help those in desperate need living in and around Coalville, so we wanted to do something that would make a difference in people’s lives.’
The Coalville Food Bank provides three days’ emergency food and support to people in the surrounding area who are referred to the organisation in crisis. The volunteer-run food bank is part of a nationwide network, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
Shailan added: ‘We have a fantastic team here who are always willing to get behind a great cause, and it is great to know that the food collected will go where it’s really needed this Christmas.’
